Creating a win-win
The mining and agricultural sectors are important contributors to the local, regional and provincial economies in Mpumalanga, South Africa and the expansion of mining activities in the Belfast area has meant that these two primary economic sectors compete for the same parcels of land. Through our work a ‘win-win’ scenario for the local, regional and national economies where these primary sectors can continue to contribute to these economies in the long-term was created.
Agricultural corridor concept
This project saw the development of a corridor concept that draws on private sector partnership to provide direct management and technical support to emerging, commercial beef farmers, facilitating access to value chains using a cluster approach where farms in similar with producing similar commodities areas are grouped. This has the benefits of optimizing resource allocation through the provision of common services, developing appropriate infrastructure that is relevant to the user and providing farmers with an opportunity to become sustainable.
Value chain analysis
Breathing new life into existing value chains
Vuna Agribusiness recently completed work with an associate firm on a scan of the Honey Industry Value Chain in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This work was critical toward identifying opportunities to integrate emerging beekeepers into a competitive value chain. We're also involved in understanding and mapping the tea, coffee, banana, mango, macadamia and tomato value chains in Malawi.
